Look at the menu Save and pick None -- that will stop keeping the wav files.
The dropped audio is due to sound card latency enough to cause frames of sound
data to be missed. Usually because the computer is too busy. Disk I/O can
cause lots of problems.
Make sure you exclude all your ham software directories from your virus scanner.

I think that not everyone is using such audio files and due their size if you
forget to empty the related folder, they tend to fill the disk space.
IMHO you should include an user option to fully disable such audio files
creation.
Las but not least: from time to time I noticed WSJT-X closes suddenly without
any apparent reason, then I need to restart it.
