I finally got back to this problem. (Figured I'd update the thread, although little success). Wix 3.0 Smoke reported only the expected warnings. No errors. So presumably, whatever the problem is, it affects only light.exe. Tried 3.5, but I haven't figured out how to get it to play with Visual Studio 2008. My install projects all come up disabled. (Votive in 3.5?) Probably a case of 'stupid user', but I'm under time pressure here. So right now I'm back on 3.0, and using "Supress ICE Validation" for all build configurations's. Seems to be the only way right now. I may figure out a way to add a 'smoke' pass later.
