I doubt that would work. How would the Wt application
be started ? How could it run in parallel on port 80
to the (typically shared) Apache server that mass web
hosting uses ? (it may not even have permission to open port 80).

I'm not sure what you mean. As I understand it, mod_php and
mod_perl provide quite deep access into Apache, and are general
purpose languages, so it seems conceivable that you could
implement a fastCGI interface out of Apache via them.

Bindings to what ? mod_php and mod_perl already provide
bindings into Apache.
