created for insufficient heuristics - that is right, but let call it "feature" rather than "workaround". Also let think about cases: 1. I think that my file is PCAP, but Wireshark opens cannot open it --> Broken file 2. I think that my file is PCAP, but Wireshark opens it as MP2T and it seems that output is not correct , so I open try to open is as "PCAP", but Wireshark cannot do that --> File is definitely broken (~0.1% that there is a bug in Wireshark) (additional information) There is a lot of weak format, so I hope have this option is a good idea. Better to have weak heuristic open routines than cannot open file at all. I also believe that somewhere exists formats that you cannot fix heuristic to correctly open them.
