Powerline communications is bad because it radiates
Radio signals in the short-wave spectrum.

Electricity wires are not made for those frequencies and act
like big antennas for transmission and reception.

Although the home-plug standard notches some bands
in the short-wave spectrum.. the notch is only 30 db

Broadcasting, marine and military short-wave bands are
not notched.

Although with a couple of homeplug modems in a house the
interference is localized, it can be not so nice for the
neighbours around you if they make use or listen to that
short-wave spectrum. They can legally demand that it
will be switched off.

WiFi is a much better solution indeed.

They are but I have absolutely no interest in doing this, it sounds so
flakey and our power stuff is always problematic that I don’t want to mess
around with something that will be more trouble than it's worth. Also, WiFI
is so plug&play, no need to do support for the guests. Connecting peoples
laptops' network connection to the AC sounds like an accident waiting to
happen.
