Hi everybody!
Todays mail has two reasons:
1) The first thing is you can start working on translating trunk into your lang.
Though you should try to follow the textdomain status page [1] since some
textdomains might still undergo larger reworks.
You might want to switch your language using some different typography following
the official guideline which is listed at [2].

2) The other reason for this mail is that I am currently looking for possible
mentors for google code-in. Google code-in is some program by google similar to
summer of code. But instead of being directed at university students it targets
high school students (people have to be between 13 and 18 years old). IMO this
is a great way for people to get used to open source software. A large
difference to summer of code is that more than just coding is allowed as
possible task. For example internationalization is allowed, too. This is where
you come in. To allow students to work on the translation by either translating
some parts (working units should be 2h to 8h, so something like "translate all
of utbs into lang ABC" won't work) or proofreading something, we of course need
mentors of the respective language. Information about how GCI is supposed to
work is listed in the FAQ [3].
Here a short overview how it is supposed to work:
* A student finds a task that he is interested in and claims the task.
* The student works on the task and finishes it within the set deadline.
* The resulting work is submitted somehow, in case of translations it would
probably be a diff and/or complete po file.
* The mentor reviews the submitted work. If it is sufficient the mentor acks the
work and after three of those tasks are done the student gains 100$. If it is
not sufficient, the mentor comments on what has to be changed/improved.

What you would have to do as mentor:
* Find "reasonable" tasks that make sense for your language. A task should
usually take 2 to 8 hours to complete. Eg a possible task is something like
"translate the campaign two brothers" (since it is rather small), "translate the
first 3 scenarios of utbs", "translate the drake unit descriptions" or
"proofread ABC".
* Submit those tasks into the google tracker (only tasks listed in the google
tracker can be worked on). Please note that the "time to complete" is *not*
something like "expected time for completion" but a case of "after the task is
claimed the student has X hours to get it completed".
* If someone claims a task, review the committed work and provide comments.

Since the submitted work has to be reviewed and acknowledge as "sufficient" we
need people who are able to review the work and define what tasks are really
required. This is where the language maintainers come in, since you should know
what is required in your language and you should be able to review the work. If
you want to have your lang participate in this, please create an account at the
google site (you can eg look at the FAQ [3] and go over "sign in" there).
Afterwards mail me from the address that you also use for sending me the files
you want committed and tell me your link_id. I will then send you an invite for
the Wesnoth project. After you got the invite you can "suggest a task". When
doing so make sure to list which lang the translation is meant for and keep in
mind that the students are 13 to 18 years old, making the tasks an appropriate
size.

In case there are questions either reply to this mail, mail me directly or ask
via irc in #wesnoth-dev on irc.freenode.net.

Cheers,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
