In defense of David, his messages were having difficulty in getting through. This is a common problem with Google Groups. Mostly, it works great, but sometimes messages take long and mysterious paths before getting posted. For example, they can get quarantined, but Google fails to notify me that they're there, so they languish in purgatory until I notice or somebody complains.
