Rereading this thread come to understand that definition/semantics is a 
critical aspect in this discussion.
*Bluntly* summarized:
- Sunshine = seeing difference between lighted area and shadowed area.
Like KarenK's device is doing
- Lightlevel = level of undirected solar radiation, not/hardly 
differentating on wavelength.
Like most light sensors in 'private' PWSes will provide.
- Duration = derivative time-value of one of above, considering the time 
that a specfied threshold level is exceeded, with result expressed as 
accumulating time/day

*Correct understanding?*
If correct, more attention seems needed that nomenclature of variables is 
properly tuned; 
otherwise obvious confusion.
