Thanks for you response. Yes, I read into the interceptor method and it 
sounded quite tedious so I figuered it was worth a question on the forum. 
The console can be programmed for upload to WU, Ecowitt, Weathercloud and 
WOW. Besides theese there is a customized option as well, which might 
provide a way around re-routing. For now I think I'll go with the HA custom 
component method and wait for official HA support of the new WU API. I'd 
still want to try out weewx, so I put that in the backlog for this fall
