But if you have no Linux experience you will have a lot of pain getting 
there. There is some baseline Linux expertise that is basically required as 
a prerequisite.

At a minimum, you need to be able to install software and edit text files.

For Linux HOWTOs in general, there are thousands.  I usually tell people to 
look at the (free) edx.org class on Linux from the Linux Foundation as a 
self-paced starter to get at least some exposure to Linux before getting 
frustrated. - see https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-linux - you 
have to register for an account, but the class is free.
