just to repeat (again) --- pointing out this difference in fundamental paradigm: translation vs. string-serving was not to suggest we make a change (at this point) but rather to point out the necessity to be explicit and crisp about describing what we _have_ chosen to do (as not having this boundary clear can create, and in this case has, bugs).
