The book chapter is the main documentation. Regarding the constructor, check out http://web2py.com/books/default/chapter/29/06/the-database-abstraction-layer#DAL-constructor. I think that convers most of the arguments. adapter_args and driver_args are dictionaries of arguments that get passed to the adapter and driver, respectively.
