I think about that every time I see that episode. But why wasn't he just
honest with Mr. Doakes? He could just say, "I really appreciate you giving me
the job, but I found out that Billy needs the job to help provide for his
family, so I'd like to bow out and give the job to him." I would think Mr.
Doakes would admire Opie for that.
