I wanted to give a report on my experience at Mayberry in the Midwest in Danville, Indiana, this past weekend.
My husband and I arrived on Saturday morning in time for the parade, which was a lot of fun. Maggie Peterson Mancuso was the Grand Marshall. There were several squad cars, and the tribute artists interacted with people in the parade and on the sidelines. After the parade was the tribute artists' show, and they did a great job and provided a lot of laughs. Ray and I ran into some relatives we were not expecting to see, so we had a little family reunion for part of the day. We had lunch at the Mayberry Café, but there was such a long line to get in that we got take-out and ate at the picnic tables outside. I was disappointed to realize afterwards that I missed the trivia contest, but it was because we were having lunch with the relatives and visiting. Later, we walked around the courthouse square and checked out all the vendor booths. We also rested our feet for awhile in the Royal Theater and watched a couple episodes of TAGS (they ran them continously through most of the day). It was fun to see the show on the big screen with a lot of other people! I couldn't resist quoting some of the lines to Ray while we watched. The tribute artists had another show later in the afternoon, so we went back to watch it again. In between times, we chatted with the tribute artists, and Ray took my picture with several of them. Some of them recognized my name from the digest, which was nice. We stayed for the Dillard concert that evening. They moved it from the park amphitheater to an indoor location because the weather was unseasonably cool that day. A $15 ticket bought two and a half hours of entertainment. There was an opening act, followed by the Dillards. Rodney spoke at intervals about his experiences on TAGS, but the focus was on the music, which was amazing! Maggie Peterson joined them for a couple songs toward the end. The tribute artists were there, too, and added to the fun. What an enjoyable and memorable day!! I'll tell you about Sunday in another post. Thelma Lou (Janet) _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
