Aunt Bee,
The 40 Acres backlot in Culver City was demolished in '75/76 to make
room for an industrial park. The back lot had fallen into extreme
disrepair and sat on some highly marketable real estate. The movie
"Vigilante Force" (1976) was the last movie filmed there and it is
saddening to watch as many of the Mayberry sets were destroyed on
film as part of the movie. Kipp Teague's outstanding backlot website
about 40 Acres is well worth viewing!

What year was the town of " Mayberry" torn down and why was it torn
down? It would have made a great tourist attraction.
