@michael: if you wish to do so I wont stop you, having some designers work on a new layout for wave would be nice.
What are the deadlines? An unofficial deadline for Apache projects is 9-13th May which aligns with ApacheCon. I believe this is easily achievable. Where can versions of the logo be found? http://apache.org/foundation/press/kit/ What about hosting? Hosting is provided by Apache at no cost to the project. What system is used to build the project? Currently we are using the Apache cms tool which was designed in house but we have the option to use any system we wish too as long as it creates static files, so jekyll is perfectly fine. Templates? Personally I would be happier with a custom template rather than a stock one, creating a design using web frameworks like foundation or bootstrap has made this much easier. What about the documentation html exports? These are easily customised (why we chose sphinx) and will follow suit with the new design or an alternative "documentation design". Goals? Advertise, Inform, Educate ;) . This project is creating a product which eventually will be a Wave server and a standardised Wave client for multiple platforms. I'm no designer, most I can do is critique or implement so I'll just chuck in these links of designs which i believe allow the "advertise, educate" style. https://www.vaultproject.io/ https://jekyllrb.com/ ~ Evan On 31 January 2016 at 07:55, Andreas Kotes <count-apache....@flatline.de> wrote: > Hi, > > On 1/30/16, 2:10 AM, "Evan Hughes" <wisebald...@apache.org> wrote: > > We need a new website for our homepage and a new docs template design, > > I also agree it could use a refresher. > > What are the technical goals? > > I'm asking because I've made good experience with static pages driven by > https://jekyllrb.com/, which is also behind GitHub Pages - if the GitHub > is to be continue this would solve the hosting as well. > > I agree Design should come first - if nobody steps up, is there any > reason to not grab a design from http://www.oswd.org/ and adjust styles > as needed? > > what are the goals for the design, i.e. should it inform? advertise? > educate? there are some visually stunning sites that leave a hell of an > impression of a product/service while not really allowing for detailed > information to provided in a truly structured manner. > > (http://www.csszengarden.com/ has a few non-free Wows) > > should the design of the website and the templates for documentation > be integrated with each other beyond color & style choices? should the > default Wave client template fall in line as well, or rather serve for > orientation? > > I think these bits of information would be important for any designer to > have a chance of estimating the work required to do a complete job. > > count > > -- > Andreas 'count' Kotes > Taming computers for humans since 1990. > "Don't ask what the world needs.
