Some things have changed since I said that, yes. In particular, the 2-3 people who were driving the effort to roll out the new protocol are no longer working on WIAB. That task a juicy, fun piece of work, but now it's just waiting for someone to pick it up. You're welcome to implement an alternative client based on the current protocol, but upon doing so you're likely to run into many of the limitations of it that prompted it to be redesigned. -Dave
