I guess it is a matter of Apples and Oranges. In the Apples category, I
can follow Step 2A of
https://wiki.fd.io/view/VPP/Build,_install,_and_test_images, where I do not
have to explicitly say "make dpdk-install-dev". I just tried it on a clean
Ubuntu Server; granted I am using Ubuntu 16.10 unofficially. There is no
trace of any dpdk packages installed on that system of mine. Everything
worked, through make build-release. Stan mentions the "build script" and
perhaps that is the Oranges category. Or this is a CentOS vs Ubuntu issue?
Also, there is no mention of "make dpdk-install-dev" on the wiki page I
mentioned. If there truly are two procedures that have significant
differences, Apples and Oranges, it would be nice if that was clarified on
that wiki page. Ctrl-F "build script" on that page does not produce any
hits. Grumble!
