Peter's comment ("bubbles need some liquid") raises an interesting point -
the SCF - or supercritical fluid.

This is a virtual fluid, and since it is a phase change - should be subject
to some kind of cavitation-like effects.

For instance, a useful SCF in industry - CO2 - is routinely used for its
solvent properties and can be cavitated. I did a quick search and this pops
up: Cavitation-Induced Reactions in High-Pressure Carbon Dioxide
http://www.sciencemag.org/content/298/5600/1969.abstract

...indicating that sonochemistry works with SCFs - so one wonders if SCFs
have been tried in experiments for sonofusion effects. Also methanol-SCF is
used to make biodiesel.

BTW - ethanol, methanol and many HCs would be candidates - deuterated or
not.

Dear Lou,

I think we should not mix the issues, bubbles need some liquid and the most
promising systems Piantelli, Rossi, DGT are gas phase.
