Sounds like it could be SOP, Standard Operational Procedure. Yes, I agree,
it does little to thwart those with deliberate and malicious intent on their
minds.

However, and as you have also pointed out, anyone contemplating the notion
of being creative with the source had better be aware of the consequences.
