I've seen it in action at my previous employer. It's a vncserver at every (W'95 or Wnt4) workstation. The server just runs as a service. If not, the user at the workstation has to start it from a shortcut at the startmenu. SOme security issues: The network security is at the edges (firewalls etc) Machines have realy drifting ip addresses (dhcp with short leases) On machines with realy restricted use, like payroll administration, the vncservice is definitly NOT installed. Performance issues: The network was mainly 100MB with 1GB backbones All switched network (hubs only in rare occations) Up to 400 or 500 users (...) General (default) display geometry: 800x600 with 16 bits color. Helpdesk workstation with 1280x1024 display (and 21" screen). Background picture fixed to a low color image (company logo).
