What's the colordepth of the machine running the viewer? Is the viewer
somehow restricted? What if you view trough your browser?

How is the Xvnc started?

Have you tried the setup at
http://www.sourcecodecorner.com/articles/vnc/linux.asp? With this you can
avoid interference with the local display as that is not touched at all (not
even needed).

What is the maximum application core size? Do you get a coredump? The entire
screen must fit in the core size (height * width * 4 for 32 bits colordepth
* 2 for some backingstore area) Hence try a smaler size (800x600x32 for
example)
