Jacob, The version is 3.3.3 R9, while the Win 2000 setup on my laptop which works is v 3.3.3 R2. Maybe I should go retro!
I just followed the installer, where there were no options for all/service and it got installed as a service. I'll see if I can download 3.3.3 R2 to see if that cures it.
