thanks everyone for your help i decided to go with the xp option with remote
desktop it works great, fast and prints aswell (surprised since it is M$)

If we're talking about a Windows solution... what about setting up a SSH
tunnel
between each box. Then share a printer on the connecting PC. If you're
sharing
ports 139 - the remote box should be able to access that.

The main downside to this is share access on each system and getting the
SSH tunnel going. ;-)
