If you happen to run some Compaq servers, have a look at the Remote
Management http://www.compaq.com/manage/remotemgmt.html boards. I happen to
work with the Remote Insight Board
(http://www.compaq.com/manage/remote-lightsout.html). It provides something
similar as VNC does. Some of the advantages are a remote floppy and a remote
reset button. If it has external power, it has even a remote power button.
The major disadvantage is the horrible performance, specially compared to
VNC ;-)

c) find some spare time

d) map U.S. suppliers onto whatever you can get in your neck of the woods

e) build, dbeug, debug, ... and enjoy

If you feel cheated that you end up with 16 leds hidden away inside each PC
where the sun doesn't shine much,
you could install a very small low-light internet camera inside each PC ...
