Assuming that the Mandrake 8.0 /etc/rc.d/init.d/vncservers is similar to
the Red Hat script (I'm 99% sure it is), you should take a look at
/etc/sysconfig/vncservers.  Each line should define a display number and
a username.  If the username is root, then I'm a little stumped.  If
it's something else, check for .vnc/passwd in that user's home
directory.  If that passwd file looks okay, you might want to verify
that it is on a filesystem that has been mounted by that point in the
startup process.
