Hello,

I just downloaded TightVNC 1.2.1 and tried to install it on a machine
with Red Hat 6.0. Upgrading this system to Red Hat 7.1 or 7.2 is
obviously the best solution, but for various reasons I can't do that
right now. If possible, I'd like to get TightVNC working without
having to do a major system upgrade right now.

Installing the RPMs intended for Red Hat 7.1 didn't work because I
apparently have an old version of bash (<2.0) (which couldn't be
upgraded because of other dependency issues). I can't believe bash
has changed that much, so there ought to be a way to work around it.

Compiling the source also didn't work -- the first instruction is to
run xmkmf, which my system appartently doesn't have (at least not in
the usual place). I don't seem to have imake either. These are part
of XFree86, another system upgrade which is overdue but which I don't
really have the time and disk space for right now.

Now I have AT&T VNC 3.3.3 working fine on this same machine; I just
want to try out TightVNC to see if it's faster in my situation.

Thanks!
