A liitle more info. would help since my mind reading skills are a bit rusty ;-) .
Are you running the vncserver script or using inetd? If using inetd, does Mandrake 8.0 have xinetd or does it still use inetd? If running the vncserver script, is it the newer one in init.d or the standard vncserver script? What steps do you follow to launch the script both when it fails and when it works? Anything else you can tell us to help us see what you are doing?
