Apologies if this has been dissected at length in the 1998 back-issues.

I am running VNC in server mode on a Compaq ML370 running NT4 SP6a. The
topology from my client (running WIN98) is:

(client).......(Cisco router1).......(cisco router2).........(server).

The client can ping the server and traceroute shows that both client and
server are using the same path to each other. I have reviewed inbound and
outbound interfaces on both routers and there are no access lists
preventing any traffic passing through. I have telnetted to the server from
the client to port 5900 and receive solely the message "RFB 003.003". I
have debugged the traffic on both routers and am seeing traffic from and to
tcp port 5900 (though not much...)

However, when I make the connection to the server I receive the login
prompt, enter the (correct) password, and then receive the message "Please
wait - initial screen loading" and then nothing happens. The session
appears good, and I have control of the mouse (I can move the dot around)
and keyboard of the server (I'm working in a lab and can see the pointer
move), but there is nothing but grey screen until the session times out. I
have played with various screen and connection options to no avail.

I am able to connect to the server from another NT server which is
connected via the same topology. An NT server coming in through a remote
connection had the same problem.

I've read the FAQ, the Documentation, and the mail archives (1999-2001). In
the latter I percieve that this is not a new problem, but sadly have not
been able to read any appropriate answers.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Best wishes

Chris Jaecker
