This probably wouldn't work very well, if at all. If the application has any
dialogs at
all, they'll come up without borders or titles; worse, you won't be able to
type into them.

There might be problems with keyboard focus in the main window as well.

Mandrake 8.1 has this problem; the first time a newly-created user signs on
(with X) on that system, a setup program is run *before* any window manager.
Some of it wants text input; the first time I ran it, I was unable to enter
any text whatsoever.

You are better off running at least a small window manager, such as twm.
