Easy solution for SuSE!

First I want to thank everybody for their hints. Sorry, that nothing
directly worked ( I have not checked Ravila Helen's script).

In the SuSE Linux distribution 7.o there is a directory /etc/X11/xdm with a
collection of xdm related files. The last line in the file xdm-config is:

DisplayManager.requestPort: 0

All you have to do is to comment out this line. This enables XDMCP and you
get a nice chooser to log in. Prerequisite is, that the init mode in inittab
is set to 3, which is the case if in YAST a graphical console login is
chosen.

Hope this will help someone else.
