James,
I ran through the same steps again but used the command line rather than the
GUI and the system still will not allow the VNC service to start. When
trying to start the service I just get an access denied. The settings are
configured for Log on as Automatic, also set for local system account and
allowed to interact with the desktop as you pointed out. I have to believe
this is directly related to Microsoft's IIS patch as the problem immediately
occurred after the patch was installed. I have other servers running this
same setup (without Microsoft's latest patch) and they are running VNC
server with no problem. I need to patch those other systems as well but I
think I'll loose my remote control with VNC. What a Bummer :(
Has anyone else experienced this problem after installing Microsoft's IIS 4
patch outlined in Microsoft security bulletin MS01-026?

Did you perform the winvnc -remove step before removing the software, and
winvnc -install after re-installing?

Check the service settings. I suspect that the service is marked as
Disabled, when it should be Automatic. Also check that the service is set
to run in the Local System account and has access to the desktop.
