Hi Ed:
Try put in you ~/.vnc/xstartup the lines:
#!/bin/sh
kde
Of course , to run this session, you must run the vncsercer as the user
with the ~ user.
It should show you a KDE session when you connect to the box that is
running the server.
This solution works in my slackware 7.1 box, an in a solaris 8 box (but
whit CDE).
Don't forguet to use vncpasswd to set the session password.
Good Luck !!!

Subject: linux desktop not displaying
I am new with VNC so bear with me on this. (And yes, I have read the docs
and searched the archives.)
Server machine is running Mandrake 7.2 , Xfree86 / KDE desktop
When viewing at first, all I got was the xterm. I edited ~/.vnc/xstartup
to read:
#!/bin/sh
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc &
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &
All I get now is pretty much a blank pixelated screen and an X mouse cursor
no matter where I place the xinitrc line.
Here's the log from the last connection:
