If I get enough time, I'll be working on an implementation of a "secure &
encrypted" version of VNC, which will be integrated with normal operation
and should be virtually transparent. I'll be using standard encryption
libraries and the results of a brainstorming-session-cum-discussion done a
couple of months ago on the subject of VNC security and encryption.
With a properly-equipped set of native and Java clients, it should be
usable from any situation currently accessible to regular VNC clients. The
only exceptions might be embedded and handheld devices which simply don't
have the extra space needed for the routines (which shouldn't be *that*
much of a problem, since these routines aren't all that big).
When implemented - using the Mac server and (probably) the UNIX TridiaVNC
viewer - I'll publish the implementation and a specification so that people
can criticise (hopefully in a constructive manner) and port it to the
remaining architectures. This implementation may take a while, though, as
other issues need sorting out before I attempt new stuff.
