I know this topic has discussed before. I think I recall that ATT is
against implementing 4bit greyscale. One of the concerns is that they do
not want to create a new encoding.

But I think there are at least 3 reasons why this option would be very popular.

1 - the percentage of people with low bandwidth internet connections will
still remain high for a while. Here in the US, dsl and cable modem are
gaining in popularity, but the sheer distance sensitivity means that most
people will not be able to get dsl for some years to come - leaving them
with only 56k.
2 - The percentage of people with low bandwidth wireless connections is
increasing rapidly. Sure, 3G, GPRS, and others are coming, but they are 3
years off - as a realistic guess.
3 - it will be fast. VNC is awesome. I can install it on friends pc's,
relative's pc's, and all of the corporate pc's. I'm sure all of you are
proficient PC users. You know when somebody calls you with a question,
you're brain is flying at a rapid pace, and start menu/ whatever is
dragging across the screen like Jesus carrying the cross.

What do you people think about this?
James?
