I'm also new to VNC and also new to Linux. What I did remove was the
following lines:
$defaultXStartup
= ("#!/bin/sh\n\n".
"xrdb \$HOME/.Xresources\n".
"xsetroot -solid grey\n".
"xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title \"\$VNCDESKTOP Desktop\"
&\n".
"twm &\n");
And replaced it with the following:
$defaultXStartup
= ("#!/bin/sh\n\n".
"/usr/dt/bin/Xsession &\n");
The remaining lines I left in the script. Is this correct?

Yes i did get it to work using that suggestion. Did you take everything out
of the default startup except for what he said?
