This is a classic symptom of the Xvnc Hextile-buffer-overrun bug. I
believe a patch for it was submitted, but unfortunately AT&T seem to be a
little slow at incorporating patches and releasing new versions. I suggest
grabbing the source, applying the patch you found (thanks for actually
using the archives...) and seeing if your problem goes away after
recompilation.
Regarding AT&T and slowness of releasing, I noticed (while testing the Mac
server) that the currently-available version of WinVNC still has the CoRRE
bug in the viewer. Will someone please fix that?
