Fist off, the third one is correct:
export DISPLAY=our.IP.address:1
Now some questions.
Which operating system are you running the vnc server on?
Are you not starting the installer in the browser session? Why "redirect" the
output?
What messages are you getting. Anything like "connection refused by server?"
What happens when you start a simple X client like xterm?

Subject: Export DISPLAY Problem
Message text:
We've loaded VNC, and have it running on our remote Internet server. We've
been able to successfully log in with our password, by pointing the browser
interface to http://our.IP.address:5801.
We're trying to run the Oracle database installer program, but we can't seem
to get the "export DISPLAY" command right. We've tried:
export DISPLAY="our.IP.address:5801"
export DISPLAY="5801"
export DISPLAY="our.IP.address:1"
None of these commands seem to redirect the display output to the VNC
server, so it can then pass the display on to our browser.
We've come to a dead halt with our Oracle installation as a result, so any
suggestions would be gratefully accepted!
