     Is this "Dameware" supposed to be something like VNC?  Or is it a kind
of VPN?

     Depending on what you've got for your computer, and what you need,
there might also be some other solutions as well.  For example, if you've
got XP Pro, you could activate its "remote desktop" and then you could
access your computer using "remote desktop connection".
