This appears to be some sort of trojan behavior. Normal vnc does not do this.

I came across this discussion thread while searching for info related to
this issue. I signed up for the discussion list but I could not figure
out how to continue or add to an existing discussion thread.

* I am having exactly the same issue as described below. I have
no antivirus or anti-spyware software on my PC at all (or if there is it
does not show in All Programs, C:\Program Files, Services, Task Manager,
or the registry).
* The issue of the vncviewer.exe file disappearing as soon as it
is launched does NOT happen in Windows safe mode.
* I have Windows XP sp2 with Internet Explorer v6 on an IBM T43
Thinkpad PC.

If you or anyone on the discussion list has any ideas on how I can
figure out what is causing the vncviewer.exe executable to disappear as
soon as it is executed please pass along.

Thanks,

Mark

Jane,

It sounds like you're running an anti-virus program on the computer that
has
mis-detected vncviewer.exe as viral and removed it. This seems to be
surprisingly common, even amongst the reputable AV software products.

Cheers,

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

Subject: VNC.exe disappears

We have the viewer installed on a number of computers and in the last
week we have had a number of instances where the vncviewer.exe has
disappeared. It is not in the recycle bin and there is nothing in the
Eventviewer pointing at it being uninstalled. The other 2 files remain
in the vnc4 folder. The users of these computers would not have a clue
how to delete that file on purpose and would have no reason to.

Does anyone know why this happening and how it can be
prevented? It has
happened more than once at one location this week.

Thanks.
