You are correct that krdc stands for KDE Remote Desktop Client, but I 
understand that it can use both protocols depending on what the server 
requires.  I have used it successfully with both rdp & rfb.  There's also the 
Linux rdesktop application which I haven't managed to make it work yet 
(through an ssh tunnel).

The RealVNC version I am using on the server is: vnc-4_1_2-x86_win32.exe
