I use a combination of both. I generally use RDP to connect to a single computer over the Internet and then use VNC Scan to manage all of the computers on that network using VNC from that desktop.
This way, I only need to publish one TCP port 3389 to the remote network. RDP is generally faster and more secure than VNC. This also saves me from messing with VNC repeaters, port forwarding, and reverse connections. ME ---> encrypted RDP --> Firewall ---> Management computer (RDP) ====> All local computers (VNC) For me, this is even better than using a VPN because I don't have to worry about all of the DNS resolution or domain authentication fun when deploying VNC or running remote scripts from VNC Scan. Also, another benefit of VNC is CONSOLE access. When you log on via TS, you get your own new session and you cannot control the CONSOLE session.
