Dragos, Put simply: If port forwarding to standard TCP ports on a wireless-connected computer works for some applications, then it'll also work for VNC. VNC Server is just a normal TCP/IP server application.
Without knowing more about the port forwarding rules you've set up for VNC in your router, the way your LAN IP addresses are assigned, which viewer you're using, and so-on, it's impossible to speculate as to what aspect of your network configuration is causing the "timed out" error.
