Get a print server that does IPP protocol (Hawking is one that works pretty well). Connect it to your local printer (the client end) and forward the ports to it through your router (usually the CUPS port, which is 631, if I recall). Add a printer using IPP on the server. Windows XP has IPP built in, but there are installable protocols for other OSes. When you print from the client side, select the printer that is set up on IPP and it will print through the print server. The hitch in this is that some printers don't like some print servers attached, so you have to find one that works.
