"Proxy server" generally means you will not get this working.

Yes, you need to give the port number (which would be 5800, not 5900). 
Some NAT devices may not do port forwarding from inside the lan, try from
a machine on the internet side.

GOTOMYVNC only checks the RFB port (default the 5900-5910 range, IIRC),
not the HTTP port for serving the java applet (5800+display number).  In
order to use the java applet you need both ports open (5800,5900 or
5801,5901, etc).
