confused with realvnc, tightvnc, xf4vnc, etc

I am a great fan of VNC largely because it lets me access my Linux X sessions over the Internet from a Windows machine anywhere. I would also like to be able start offering a Linux "terminal services" type of solution to my customers instead of th MS one.

I started with the AT&T VNC (now RealVNC) and then discovered Alan Hourihane's excellent xf4vnc project and started using his Xvnc program as a drop-in replacement. The thing that took me to xf4vnc was the support for TrueType fonts that comes with the XFree86 version 4; this immediately solved all the font problems that I had been having.

Then I discovered TightVNC, which claims a number of benefits but seems to have the same fonts problems as RealVNC.
Here's the question that I still have after quite some looking around:

If I must have TrueType fonts and bandwidth optimisation is also very important, how can I find out what each of these alternatives has to offer?
