Hello all: I am trying to run Tight VNC from my home network to my office computer and vice versa. Please give me your thought on my situation, if you don't mind.
>From home to office VNC works fine. I can bring up my machine's desktop and use it! (Success!) From office to home is "can't find server". At home I have an XP Pro system tied into a Linksys BEFSR41 router then into a RoadRunner Cable modem. When I opened port 80 in the router and add my computer's IP address (192.168.1.102), everything seems fine. I added my host (Home VNC serer) to the "no-ip DUC" service and still no problem. No-ip DUC is set as a service on the XP machine and runs in my system tray and is updating the router's IP address every 30 minutes. However, when I try to access the home computer from the office, the VNC viewer reports it can't find the server. The VNC server is always on in the home XP machine. When I went back into the router and read the help file for the port forwarding it said I have to disable DHCP for the port to be open. Does this sound right to any you? If so, will I have to assign IP/gateway/etc addresses manually in the XP machine internet setup? Any help or suggestions from you will be greatly appreciated.
