Yes, you are right.

The choices in both Win95 and Window 3.11 for telnet ports are
only:

        telnet
        daytime
        echo
        qotd
        chargen

However, I am pleased to report that the shareware program NetTerm
under 3.11 DOES permit any port, and it, too, receives
RFB 003.003 from the working (local) VRC server, but like
the browser's telnet, is not able to connect to the hung
VNC server.

(Remember 3.11 -- the legacy beginnings of Windows networking?
I still do e-mail under it.  I connect it to the net using
NAT32 -- a splendid, shareware network address translator running
on my win95 gateway to the cable modem.)

So --  are we now somewhat convinced that there may be a bug
in winVNC for Windows 2000 Server? -- not releasing a session,
and thus not permitting logging in?
