I see in your next post you got Netscape to work, but the problem here is a
syntax issue.  In order to run telnet on a non-default port you need "telnet
hostname port" with no colon.

I usually forget myself and just use the GUI connect dialog.  Or use puTTY
for that matter, but that is a completely different conversation.
