The only app I can suggest is blind square. It has a simulation mode that lets you figure out where you are.

I have of course heard of blind square & Ariadne gps, would you recommend one of those? Something else? I thought I'd look at around me and walk score, but I'm not sure these apps will do what I want. I'd love to use the app and pretend I'm on Front street walking in the town. If you know what I mean.
